Do you know what’s better than getting free candy on Halloween? Giving out treats to all the trick-or-treaters! But, along with this yummy joy comes its share of stains. We’re going to tackle candy stain-removal methods for you!
Quick Tips to Remember:
Remove stains as soon as you see them.
In order to avoid a garment from leaking and transferring its stain, lay a towel across the front of it with another layer on top.
Tumble drying can set a stain, so hang your clothes to dry and remove any stains before they have the opportunity of ruining anything.
To keep your floor clean and stain-free, put down a garbage bag before the kids start dumping their candy.
Removing Chocolate Stains
Sometimes chocolate stains can be tricky, but don’t worry! If you know where to start it’s really easy. Gently scraping the hardened chocolate off with a credit card or butter knife is an effective way to start. This will also work for caramel stains.
Dish soap or laundry detergent is a great way to get rid of pesky chocolate stains on your clothes. Soak the area with dish soap, let it sit for 10 minutes, and then launder in cool water!
If the stain is still there, make a solution of 2 parts hydrogen peroxide to one part dish soap and leave that on for an hour or so. If possible, soak your garment in oxygen bleach before washing again – but remember you may have to repeat this step!
Removing Other Candy Stains
If you think that hard candy is the cause, pick it off and then use vinegar with warm water to remove any stains. You can also add stain pre-treater before soaking for 5 minutes; this will make sure your clothes stay clean!
If you notice that the stain has not come out, it’s likely because of the red colors. Soak in oxygen bleach for 30 minutes then re-wash and try again!
