10 WAYS TO SAY “THANKS” AND SHOW GRATITUDE THIS THANKSGIVING

Saying thank you goes a long way toward showing your gratitude, but it can be hard to know exactly how to do it. Being thankful is more than just sending out an email or text message; it’s making sure that your thanks are properly conveyed through meaningful actions and thoughtful gifts to show your gratitude. Here are 10 ways to show gratitude this Thanksgiving!

1) SEND THANKS IN ADVANCE

This Thanksgiving, take some time to show your gratitude in advance. You can send a thank you note to your host, or even better, help out with the preparations. Plan ahead and make a dish or two that you know everyone will love. Taking the time to show your appreciation will make the holiday that much more special.

2) USE THE RIGHT WORDS

1. Get specific about what you’re thankful for. Instead of simply saying thanks for everything, try to be specific about the things you appreciate.
2. Acknowledge the good things, big and small. Don’t forget to mention the little things that make your life better, like a spouse who always has your favorite snacks on hand or a coworker who brightens up your day.
3. Make it personal. Tell the person why you’re grateful for them and what they mean to you. If possible, include a story or memory that illustrates why they’re important to you.
4. Use your words, but don’t feel like you have to write a novel! You can write a short note, a sweet poem, or just take the time to speak about how you feel!

3) MAKE A MEANINGFUL PHONE CALL

One way to show your gratitude this Thanksgiving is to make a meaningful phone call. When was the last time you called just to catch up with someone, without any ulterior motive? Instead of waiting for someone to call you, take the initiative and reach out. You’ll be surprised how good it feels—and how appreciated your call will be.

4) PLAN QUALITY TIME

This Thanksgiving, show your loved ones how grateful you are for them by planning quality time together. Make a point to put away all electronics and really focus on the conversation. You could also play fun games, share old memories, or watch a movie together. Whatever you do, make sure it is something that everyone will enjoy. Quality time is the perfect way to show how much you care.

5) GIVE BACK

This Thanksgiving, why not show your gratitude by giving back? You can volunteer at a local soup kitchen or food bank, or simply do something kind for someone in your life. Even better, do something kind for a stranger! Just make someone smile, whether you give a genuine compliment, pay for their coffee, or so on!

6) RESPOND WITH ACTION

This Thanksgiving, take the time to show your loved ones how much you appreciate them with more than just words. Consider expressing your gratitude through acts of service. For example, if your roommate tends to do your dishes when you are busy and you usually just say thanks - now is your chance to switch it up! Do the dishes and take on some extra chores to show how grateful you are! Likewise, if someone has always been there to cheer you on or support you, make sure you are there for them and be present when they need you, too. Whatever you do, make sure your actions reflect positivity and thankfulness!

7) EXPRESS GRATITUDE IN PERSON

Texts or emails that show gratitude are still very sweet and appreciated. However, if you want to take it to the next level, express gratitude in person. Technology continues to advance, but we need more of these moments face-to-face. You can also express your gratitude by cooking a meal for someone or taking them out to lunch. This is a great way to show that you care about them and that you appreciate all they do for you. Or, make a long drive or road trip just to tell them thanks in person!

8) WRITE DOWN WHAT YOU ARE GRATEFUL FOR

If you are not sure what you are thankful for off the top of your head or need more time to think about what and who you are truly grateful for, write it down! Writing it out will help you collect your thoughts and is a great way to reflect. Plus, you will always have a positive list to look back on that shows and reminds you of all the things you can be thankful for if you are feeling low.

9) MIND YOUR ATTITUDE ABOUT GRATITUDE

Mind your attitude about gratitude each day - not just on Thanksgiving or for the month of November!
